THE TAPESTRY GARDEN
This garden is woven with a diverse range of plants, all comfortable in our summer drought, some native, some not, all beloved by wildlife. We wanted to create a swath of flowers that feeds pollinators and gives way to seeds for the birds in fall. The garden is held together with California fescue, a grass whose arcing, threadlike blooms glitter the air, giving the planting a soft, dreamlike feel. Derek Jarman says, “If a garden isn’t shaggy, forget it.” We agree. As the day wears on, it’s a pleasure to see this garden come alive with bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, and more.
